E-Books Sales: Tiny Today, Towering Tomorrow?
A day hardly passes when we’re not reminded that the era of the e-book is here. Though a tiny fraction of the book-buying market today, the foundations are being laid for massive sales in the future. Competition among e-book devices and e-bookstores is one sign. USAToday’s decision last week to begin including Kindle e-book sales in its bestseller calculations is another. USAToday took a visionary step, recognizing the shape in the crystal ball ahead of most distributors of bestseller lists.
It was only a matter of time wasn’t it?
I know people who still LOVE having pages in their hands, black and white print, the smell of a good book. But I also know people who have went half and half with this. They grew tired of finding places to stash their books, dusting those books, especially ones they only read once. So they converted to an E-reader of some type. Now they only buy print if its a book they really, really love. We save space, the bulk of carrying many books around or even just one, and keep the privacy of what we are reading.
Don’t panic…I doubt print will go completely extinct HOWEVER, this does present choices to suit each reader and their preferences.
Thanks to Rie McGaha who passed this onto me.
