Please note, this article is not about turning Carnivores into Herbivores. Its simply an urgent problem that we all must consider and pay attention to.
It’s about Meat, folks, and how it could be so polluted and poisoned with harmful crap, that whoever is doing it, whoever is allowing it, should be put in jail.
The situation concerning our food is a serious one. And while Vegetarians may have their reasons for pointing it out, Meat Eaters should be even more outraged because it’s your big fat steak, your chicken, your pork chop that is being tainted with toxins.
So for those who eat meat, have family members who do, and more importantly children….please read on. Then do your own investigating, and hopefully, your own raising hell about this. And I really mean –raise Hell and let’s figure out a way to stop it—together.
My cousin and I were talking one day about her second grade daughter needing to use deodorant already. I personally know first graders who are in dire need of it. That got us on the conversation of children maturing a lot sooner than what they did when we were kids…and why.
She said its the steroids and crap they load up in our meat and other foods.
That got me thinking. For people who didn’t have daughters, well, as my friend soon learned, they needed to wake up and think to.
How come? A while back, my best friend went to the doctor to get on birth control. She’d been having some bad problems, not with just her periods, but her hormone levels were off the charts. Her gynecologist asked her to cut back on meat.
My friend, a dedicated meat lover, flipped out. “For what?”
Her doctor explained, “because they pump up so many hormones into it. That’s harmful to women over time. Cut back or stop completely.”
This isn’t the first doctor I’d heard of make such a claim. Various times, here or there, you will here a Doctor or expert on TV say something about the hormones and steroids. You don’t exactly hear about it, though, after it happens, all over CNN. The claim is made and then everything goes HUSH and moves to another subject. Commercial break!
However, for every doctor out there who does, there will be another doctor out there that doesn’t. And since no real noise is being made, no one out here—in the land of me and you– makes a stand.
Maybe we feel like, what’s the point? We can barely afford that pound of fatty hamburger anyway (which is always more fat than beef). So how are we gonna afford driving to Washington and making someone do something there?
It’s a tough situation, because some people would rather go on a killing spree than to give up on meat. And to buy rganic, well Madonna might be able to swing it, but when you are a blue collar family trying to support a huge family, buying something that costs more for way less is just not an option.
And how do we know it’s organic anyway? I mean, they can say No Hormones or Steroids or Unnatural Ingredients added (which again, tells us that some big wig somewhere realizes there’s a damn problem) but how do we know they aren’t full of it. They could be stuffing the same growth- hormone- steroid- chicken up in just another prettier package.
How do we know what we are eating is not causing tiny little girls who can barely do proper hygiene to start their periods at age seven and nine. How do we know this poison we are swallowing isn’t causing our sons to go through puberty when they are still playing with Hot Wheels? How do we know that this crap we are living on isn’t what is killing us? And how do we know this junk they are selling us, isn’t causing all these Cancers?
Now I am sure every Vegan—of every kind—is out there shouting—just go green, just stop eating meat. But not everyone can manage that sort of lifestyle, no more than you would fair well eating animal flesh.
However, and this is just my silly opinion here, I personally believe that we should all be able to eat CLEAN and UNTAINTED food—of whatever kind—vegetable or meat. And somehow, some way, we need to come up with a logical and reasonable way of fighting this.
But that’s just me.
For those wanting to research this more, I offer you up the following interesting quote and links:
According to the European Union’s Scientific Committee on Veterinary Measures Relating to Public Health, the use of six natural and artificial growth hormones in beef production poses a potential risk to human health.iii These six hormones include three which are naturally occurring—Oestradiol, Progesterone and Testosterone—and three which are synthetic—Zeranol, Trenbolone, and Melengestrol.
The Committee also questioned whether hormone residues in the meat of “growth enhanced” animals and can disrupt human hormone balance, causing developmental problems, interfering with the reproductive system, and even leading to the development of breast, prostate or colon cancer.iv
Children, pregnant women and the unborn are thought to be most susceptible to these negative health effects. Hormone residues in beef have been implicated in the early onset of puberty in girls, which could put them at greater risk of developing breast and other forms of cancer. The European Union’s Committee reported that as of 1999, no comprehensive studies had been conducted to determine whether hormone residues in meat can be cancer-causing.v

Why Feeding Factory Farmed Animals Genetically Modified Monsanto Corn Has Resulted in Substandard Meats Sold in Restaurants and Grocery Stores That Lead to Inflammation, Illness, Disease, Weight Gain and Obesity in America
Also note, a personal opinion, I seriously doubt that the small farmer has his/her hand in this…so if you can buy from them, I would. However, I am beginning to have my doubts concerning Factory Farms, as should you. It’s worth investigating—good luck!
I had to transfer this post from another blog I started, but previous comments included:
Have Retweeted this blog to many beef producers so you can have more facts, straight from the….steer’s mouth so to speak.
judi @ farmnwife.com says:
Just because something is labeled “No Hormones or Steroids or Unnatural Ingredients added” does NOT mean there is a problem. It means there is a market for that product. Period.
In my experience doctors have very little experience in nutrition facts. Plus you can find just as many doctors that say a high protein meat diet is better for you.
Finally, all foods have certain natural levels of hormones in them even vegetables.
Here is a graphic of hormone levels in food.
I am not worried at all about our food supply in the US. I grow it and I eat it.
thanks for allowing me to comment.
C.H. Scarlett says:
I am not completely sure if I want to accept something published by a state as straight out fact that no Factory Farm is producing Beef or Chicken or Pork with Hormones or Steroids.
It seems that the experts that are claiming this, doubt the government regulators who are ahead of this. Its something like a prescription approved to be safe, and then having to be jerked off the shelves because its killing or harming so many.
But yes, you are right, where one Doctor, or Scientist, (I add Scientist because its not just Doctors making these claims) say one thing, another will say something else.
Such was the case with the recent argument of Dr. Oz, when his research found lethal doses of arsenic in Apple Juices. Another Doctor argued (and rather ugly) on New sources that Dr. Oz was wrong and insane for making such claims. The Doctor, though, recently went on National News a couple of weeks ago and apologized to Dr. Oz, because he had put his faith in the FDA, and then had to swallow something very difficult—that the FDA was wrong.
However, and let me just say, people are not drawing a problem JUST because a meat is labeled no horomone. I simply raise the question because personally, when I see meat in a store saying–Hormone, and Steroid free, it does raise big alarms. If there isn’t a problem, then why are some companies–the same companies pushing the hormone stuff–now offering things without? Is it merely a hoax? Is this just a new way of making money?
As for me, I continue to buy my beef from small farmers that I know personally. I am still hunting down my ‘chicken’ sources amongst the locals.
Thanks for the comment….
Here’s some information I found helpful in regards to hormone levels in beef. It’s by a non-American source if you worry about a tainted source. http://cahi-icsa.ca/uploads/UserFiles/files/Beef%20Information%20Centre%20Factsheet%20-%20Hormones.pdf I would encourage you to review the charts at the end, it really put things into perspective for me. Thank you!
Yay! Thanks Ag folks. It’s amazing to see transparency in the industry I love so much. Ms. Scarlett I hope this is helping. I’m sure a lot more information is on its way.
