Who Knew Skin and Bones was the New Sexy?

Sometimes, the truth isn’t the easiest thing to look at.

Recently, I was privileged to listen to a very interesting but startling news piece. I say privileged, because it is truly rare that I hear anything worth listening to—on the News, that is.

This piece began with names that I knew…Cindy Crawford, Christie Brinkley, Heidi Klum, and Naomi Campbell.

At one time, these women were the star dust in everyone’s eyes. Nearly every man wanted to be with them, nearly every woman wanted to look like them.

And although they put the Super, in Super Model, the average woman wasn’t that far off from actually getting what she wanted.

Once upon a time, long, long before boob jobs, butt implants, tummy tucks, and Botox…when women like Cindy Crawford (above) put on a pair of jeans, we all knew  we had more than just half a chance at wearing the same thing. And, even more worth saying, we knew we could look almost, if not just as good. Sure, we had our hang–ups, but nothing that felt absolutely impossible or that we needed thousands of dollars to fix.

And while I am sure the rich elite used to crowd the edges of Cindy’s fashion shows, the rest of us, out here in the real world, could also run to the closest store and purchase whatever Brand of jeans, or product that these models were pushing. Not only were the brands obtainable, but the fact that we could actually wear them, was more reality than dream.

How?

Cindy and her former fashion friends were only 6-9% skinnier than the average woman (at the time these models were hitting the run way). That means, me, you, and nearly everyone we knew (nearly) was only 6-9% away from weighing the exact same thing as the Super Models did.

But while most of those models were the crème de la crème of the modeling world, today, if even in their prime, they’d be lucky enough to model in the PLUS size division.

That’s right…today’s standards for a model, would actually make Cindy and the rest of them—overweight.

Think I’m joking?

Today’s model is an average of 28% thinner than the average woman. And while you may think, “Oh, well that’s because most women today ARE Obese.” I tell you, “No Mame!.”

Compared to them—the models of the now–, we might be whales, but on a truth-be-told level, the only way we could catch up, is if we were a starving Ethiopian.

Don’t believe me? Decide for yourself…

Not a big difference is there?Except one starves themselves purposely, and the other, never asked to starve at all.

I ask you, when the hell did starvation become sexy, anyway? What man or woman is actually getting his/her rocks off by seeing someone whose skin barely clings to their bones?

What frickin’ Fashion guru, thinks their market for clothing is better suited for a near-death but totally having one-foot-in-the-grave kind of woman?

Who the hell is your inspiration? The skeleton off of Tales from the Crypt, or the girl next door, one year after she’s been dug up from the graveyard?

And what the hell is wrong with the industry who is pushing this? That’s right, I call out to you, Agent, Stylist, Scout, Magazine Owner, FAMOUS HOLLYWOOD STARLET, & all of Hollywood peoples, Managers, and MODELs themselves….are you all complete morons for pushing this kind of crap, or what?

And while I am, the live and let live, kind of gal, I am actually putting my foot down concerning this one.

I will no longer support an actress, a dancer, a model or a Stylist, or a Fashion Brand, or a person of any kind who promotes this kind of crap.

That’s right—while I realize you girls need jobs, and people need to walk the line to get them, this kind of line walking will have you crawling right into a grave—and then, who will remember your name? Who remembers the gazillion Ethiopians that are probably dying right now?

But for those who refuse to stop and who end up getting caught in its web….

Go buy a pizza, eat it, keep it down, and stop this nonsense. It’s disgusting. And all you famous people–Won’t someone stand up and do something? Madonna, Angelina Jolie, Oprah, Ellen, The View, SOME-Freakin-body? If all the people with money put their foot down, then maybe the fashion business will be forced to change. Make a damn difference—stop going to these fashion shows, buying these brands, or starving yourself for a movie. Just knock it off…seriously.

I agree completely with you on this one. When I was in high school the average size of the girls was a 12 which is now considered a plus size by most. At my smallest I wore a 18 which according to my family doctor was around 5-10 lbs over my ideal weight for my height and body type.

I spent the majority of my youth fighting my fluctuating weight and then said to hell with it. I readily admit I am overweight, but without trying my body decided it was time to change 3 years ago. I went from a 24 to a 22 over the course of a year. For me that was a loss of over 50 lbs. I walk everywhere and have since lost perhaps another 10 lbs. No I’m not a size 0 or even in the single digit size and no I am not as healthy as I should be, but if I were a 0 I would look like those starving and obviously not healthy models.

Being too skinny is just as bad as being obese ask any decent doctor. I long for the days of Christie Brinkley and Cindy Crawford. That was when women looked like women and not the bloody Crypt Keeper!
