Free Desktop Wallpaper Calendar for July 2010
Above is the preview for the new Desktop Wallpaper for July 2010.
(If you like it, then just click the link sizes below, right click, and save as)
Inspiration: When people think of summertime, they often imagine sunsets, oceans, or lakes of blue. I don’t. I think of moonlit summer nights, starry skies, fireflies, hazy dreams, wishes, lovers secretly meeting within the shadows, and all sorts of magical things. That’s what inspired this wallpaper. If you like it, then please share it with all of your friends. And if you really like it, keep checking back because I think I’m going to make this a Free Wallpaper without the Calendar part just so people can use it whenever.
Feel free to add your own holidays and such, but when sharing, please don’t change anything on the wallpaper.
This wallpaper has the moon dates but NO holidays since everyone lives in a different place, celebrating different things.
There is a solar eclipse this month, though, so keep an eye out for that.
(If you need a different size, then just leave me a comment below and tell me what size you want. I will be happy to make it for you, and load it up to my Photobucket Album.)
Two Sizes:
ENJOY!!!! And again, please share with all of your friends!

"Good evening my delicious little darklings of darkness. Wyntress Nyght, here, serving up your forbidden dose of supernatural crack. So hook up your IVs, roll up the psychic and toke her, or offer up your shot glass for some ectoplasmic delight. For I have the phantasmal kick you have all been jonzing for. No DTs here, my darklings, only the monster of all dragons for you to chase . . . me! Now, for those readers who are new to my witch-board of communications, allow me to sinfully boast a little about the place I haunt. Because I am a writer, this month I decided to do the Desktop Wallpaper a little softer as if it were a story rising off of the pages. I didn’t want to do anything 3D crazy, just something supple that might sweep you away into your daydreams every time you look at it.
The Fantasy Wallpaper features some holidays (but nothing insane or cluttering), moon phases (as always), and a day or setting of the sun on one side and a mystical moon scene on the other. There are gentle colors because spring is just beginning and there is a ton of room around the border to put your desktop icons without running them into the actual picture. That way you can keep everything neat and organized.
I hope you enjoy, if not…tell me what you didn’t like so we can maybe fix it. If you like it, then do shout out because it encourages me to keep making them.
Click on the size below and it will take you to my Photo bucket album where you can RIGHT CLICK and SAVE AS.
I didn’t make a 800x 600 anymore because I was unsure if everyone still used this size or not. If you do, shout so I can get one sized. If there is a size you use that isn’t here, let me know as well. if its a common one, I will make that too.
As always, you can add your own information to these but when sharing with others, please use the originals.

Check it out! The Dawn of a Copper Age
Quote:
The Dawn of the Copper Age
I’m not referring to ancient history here! Today the Copper Age webcomic launches at www.itisacircle.com – kicking off with a story called ‘The Blind Fisherman’ – a mix of art and pictures, but not exactly traditional comics stuff (and no men in spandex thumping each other!)
This is a project I’ve been working on with Tom Brown for some years. I interviewed Tom on this blog a bit back, so you might want to hunt that out. I’ll be here today, with assorted posts about what we do, and why, and how.
Below is something to set the mood, giving you a flavour for the landscape in which our characters are trying to survive. (For more insight, have a look at www.hopelessvendetta.wordpress.com )
_______________________________
I don’t know the artist personally but I do know the writer. I can say, my mind lingers in the world and art that they have created. Rarely will I recommend something so pay attention. This is the new Gothic-ly fab-u-liscious crack. If you have a taste for the bitter-sweet then you have to bite a chunk out of this. The art and world is absolutely amazing…and I honestly can’t say enough about it. I can say that for those who can appreciate such decadent tastes, you will be dreaming of a whole new world when you lay your head to rest. Now, I am off to find out how I can score a ticket to Hopeless. I am ready to sell the house, box up the kids, and fuel up the broomstick to get me there.
Wyntress Nyght’s Supernatural Crack Sneak Peek!
I have been working on a Dark Satire called
Wyntress Nyght’s Supernatural Crack:
Welcome to my World!
Book 1.
Here is a sneak peak–
Good evening my delicious, little, darklings of darkness! Wyntress Nyght here, reporting directly from the Rave in the Grave, serving up your forbidden dose of supernatural crack. So hook up your IV’s, roll up the psychic and toke her, or offer up your shot glass for some ecotplasmic delight. For I have the phantasmal kick you have all been jonzing for. No DT’s here my darklings, only the monster of all dragons for you to chase, me!
For those readers who are new to my witch-board of communications, allow me too sinfully boast a little concerning myself, and the place I haunt.
*Insert violins of true sorrow.*
I, Wyntress Nyght, was once a woman of the living in the world you know as your own. I, *fake sobs* had a very humble life until it all came to a horrible, tragic end.
Not!
Look, who I was when or if I was alive is pure bore-drizzle compared to what I am now. Now, I party it up, each and every night at the local Rave in the Grave, which is basically the hot spot, no pun intended, for all those who are dead, undead, ghastly and ghostly.
Oh and let’s not forget all those living little darklings that wander through the Gate.
What’s a Gate?
It’s a doorway or portal into my world. Where do I live? It’s the Other World, the Underworld, or a label I am rather fond of and prefer, Hell.

Night Time Romance Reviews—5 Stars & a Little Something Extra!
Every time I submit Bound by Blood: The Awakening to a reviewer, I start to gnaw my nails, turn a little gray and pace the floors. Why? Because you never know when a Reviewer is going to have a bad day, or when they might be rushed for deadlines, or maybe they just didn’t want to read the book to start out with.
One reviewer may praise you while another may bring the hammer down over your head. In one second the slaughter-fest may begin. So far I haven’t had a slaughter-fest concerning BBB, but I know one is coming. lol
This review however, that I am about to link you is by far the best review I have ever gotten. Why? Because the reviewer put so much passion and detail into the review itself. Of course she does the basic–what all reviewers should do–she gives my description of the book and then her description. But then she gives the review and I tell ya, if anyone ever got the story, it’s her. I guess I like the review because it’s professional yet it is also through the eyes of a dedicated and very opinionated reader. Anyway, see for yourself.
Here is a clipping:
Welcome to a brand new series by this talented writer. Ms. Scarlett has created a thrilling and exciting new series that is going to wow many fans. It has that old fantasy romance that is rarely seen in today’s novels. There are many intriguing characters that help our hero and heroine along the way. Things are rarely what they seem which makes it ever harder for the heroine to keep on fighting. You will enjoy all the obstacles and challenges placed on these characters.
You better believe that Bound By Blood is a work of art that has the makings of being onscreen entertainment. You will not find anything remotely close to this novel.
To read the full review click HERE-- Because believe me, she has a lot more to say and I of course, savored every word.
When an author writes a book, we realize and accept the many trial and struggles we are going to face. Not only is the publishing process (trying to find it a home and so forth) but then there is the whole promoting the book, the reviews, getting readers and so on. It’s an ongoing roller coaster ride through a tunnel of pins and nails. We each tell ourselves if one person gets it, if one person gets lost in it, if one person loves it, then its worth it. I have been blessed with some passionate readers who have gotten it and have fallen in love with it. I enjoy every email I get. But I have to say that this one review truly rocked my world because it not only comes from a reader but also a reviewer who has the fate of my baby in their hands. So yeah, I am cherishing this moment completely and will hold tight to it in case that slaughter-fest comes my way. ~winks~
Web of the Widows
In my book Bound by Blood: The Awakening, at the beginning of each chapter is a short poem giving hint as to what is in the chapter itself. So thought I’d post some.
Web of the Widows
Spin, black one,
Delicate and pitch.
Catch me a prey,
Grant you a wish.
Deep in thy poison–
So strikes the witch.
Dissolved comes the trap,
And fate’s horrid whip.
Stalks the one who moves graceful and slow.
Beware the web of the cunning widow.

Bound by Blood:The Awakening
The Lycãons
In my book Bound by Blood: The Awakening, at the beginning of each chapter is a short poem giving hint as to what is in the chapter itself. So thought I’d post some.
The Lycãons
I am he who roams the night.
Of fur and teeth, magic and might,
Against the moon I shift and change.
Part my soul remains untamed.
.
By two or four I move about.
Silent and deadly, smooth and stout.
My blood, it quickens and begins to change.
Since genesis it has been this way.
.
Remember this for when I stand,
I may be wolf, god, or man.
©C.H.Scarlett
The Lycãons turned out to be one of my favorite breeds of Bound by Blood: The Awakening. They actually make up 6 clans of 13 ancient and powerful bloodlines. They are wolves that share soul or spirit with a male or female immortal. Unlike the other species in the book where their beasts remain hidden until time to shift, the wolf spirit in the Lycãons is dominate. They are much larger than nature’s wolves and of course, there are the eyes which seem electrical.
They like to move and travel around but to sections of realms which are marked their sacred domain. They spend the majority of their time as wolf but do shift into the male or female immortal aspect of themselves according to company.
I wanted a race of origin to trace Earth’s myths of Werewolf or Wolf to. How Werewolves came to be (not to be confused with the Lycãons) are also explained and will be even more so in future books.

My First Review on Bound By Blood: The Awakening!!!!!!
I got my first review concerning the first book of Bound By Blood: The Awakening.
For all those who have bought the book—there was formatting problems with the PDF version. My Publisher has discovered these and is on top of the problem.
I am so excited…my first review!!!!
Quotes:
Bound By Blood: The Awakening is an impressive read. The story entrapped me and would not release its hold until the final page. Samanthra showed me what a strong, selfless woman could do when put to challenges and Darieus showed me that a man can be both warrior and lover without ever combining the two…well unless asked, that is.
C.H. Scarlett has won herself a spot on my favorite author list, and I will be waiting rather impatiently for the continuation of the Bound by Blood saga, and can hope that there is going to be a continuation.
Bound By Blood: The Awakening Ready to BUY!!!!

Rhiannon Rhodes & Dark Roast Press
I guess this article is long overdo. After all I promised to say things as I learned them hopefully to help other writers who were just getting their foot in the door, etc.
Over the summer after a car accident and then my house burning down, I took a real clear look at my life and my writing. Not to bore you with details but I made the decision to back off from submitting my novel Bound By Blood: The Awakening to anymore publishers and decide what was really best for me and the book. Basically, I needed a break. Too much was going on at the time and I wanted to research more into my options as a writer and so forth.
A friend of mine and published author contacted me about a publisher he had been working with called Dark Roast Press. Since my book has romantic elements but does not revolve around it, has a strong story line which does revolve around Fantasy and Paranormal and a very active imagination, he suggested that I send it in to DPR.
I did my research on DPR (Dark Roast Press) but I was really weary. It wasn’t about them, my weariness, but was focused more on where I was in life. I was going through physical therapy, trying to move, dealing with lawyers (which I normally avoid as much as doctors) and everything else that comes from basically trying to live and breathe. Chris wouldn’t take no for an answer. He believed that my novel was ready to be read and despite the bumps I was trying to drag myself over, bugged me until I submitted it.
So I did and I really didn’t expect much to come out of it. I went on with the things that were going on in life, lost my Internet service for awhile because of the move and things went on as normal. Then one night while I was cooking supper for my family, I get a phone call. Its Rhiannon Rhodes, owner of Dark Roast Press. She explained that her publishing house usually published erotica (of no discrimination) but she was expanding into other types of fiction. Now during this phone call I realized a few things….
1. She had read the book in great detail. I know this is probably what all publishers do but to me, it showed she was legit. I mean can you imagine how many books these people have submitted in a day? Well its a lot. So for her to know actual details, small and large impressed me greatly. And the fact that she never confused my story with any other submission, impressed me even more. She also knew my characters in great detail as if she was intimate with each and every one. Now that saying something since my book is rather thick with plenty of characters…each complex or on their way in becoming so.
2. Her honesty and straight forwardness. There was no sugar coating with her which made any praise she gave me seem golden and priceless. She also understood and took a interest into what was going on in my life…she wasn’t demanding. Meaning, she didn’t tell me, Ok if you want to published with me, I want three complete manuscripts of the next in line of this series. She seemed to know me and my style of writing better than I knew myself. She had vision AND she was professional about it which reflected her experience concerning her field.
3. By recognizing my books potential and mine, she saw ahead as far as my novel went and the series that would follow. You know as a writer it is very important for someone to ‘get’ you and your skill and that’s what I got from Rhiannon. She got me and she didn’t seem to mind the length of my novel either which is a big problem with many first time writers being published. My story supported the length and the plots and characters carried it, in her eyes. (And believe me, she lets you know how keen of an eye she has when you talk to her, not by telling you or bragging but by showing you with facts and experience– she knows what makes a successful book and career)
I could list more but those were the top three that impressed me the most. So by the end of that conversation, I decided to go with Dark Roast Press and so far I haven’t regretted it.
I get one on one attention there which I think is very important. Meaning, if I have a question and I email her, she is right on it with an answer. She demands quality, not quantity. She knows what her writers are capable of and she won’t let us sell ourselves short of anything less than the full potential of our talent. I never got brushed under the rug because I was the new kid on the block. She treats me fair and equal never allowing me to become lost in favoritism or numbers.
My editor, Helgaleena is also that way. Now this lady blew my mind when it came to my first edits. She could have focused on grammar, punctuation and format alone but instead she went a mountain or two further. She saw that I wasn’t pushing myself as far as my talent goes which is a very active imagination lol. So, she demanded that I take everything a step further . She worked out my genre’s and challenged me. She is kind of a mother hen who runs a tight house who basically says, “Ok this is good but I know you can do better.” Or “Your selling yourself short Kido, now you know you are capable of more.”
If it doesn’t make sense then she challenges me to rethink and rewrite it. THAT’s what I needed. I needed someone who could recognize in me what I didn’t in myself. So I consider myself VERY lucky there. She isn’t the kind of editor who says, “This won’t work.” and it ends there. She lets me explain why I wrote it in the first place and then she says, “Ok well if this is going to work, we need to do this, this or this.” Or she throws the whole, “Ok this is good but I know that imagination of yours can do better.” at me.
I have a trust and a respect for her because I know she has my best interest at heart. She also doesn’t spend her time trying to make me write like the next Nora Roberts or Steven King. She wants me to write like C.H. Scarlett and zero in on what makes me different as a story teller.
That’s a true gift. Period.
It should also be noted that Dark Roast Press isn’t the typical publisher. They aren’t into the commercial aspect of writing. Meaning, they want a strong story and plot and not the next Harry Potter. That worked for me because even though my book has romance in it, the story does not focus on just two characters hooking up. It revolves around a world filled with characters which is made of Fantasy and Paranormal. A ‘High Epic’ Fantasy as my editor calls it.
My publisher puts out E-books but sometime this year she is going to do print as well. That was VERY important to me. Let’s face it, as a writer I have to think ahead concerning my future so it meant a lot to me that my publisher was thinking ahead as well. It didn’t matter to me that they were small and starting out because so am I. I needed someone to believe in my work so it wouldn’t kill me to believe in their determination for success as a publisher.
They do not discriminate either which I discovered to be a big deal in trying to get published. I had an agent refuse to read my manuscript because it had characters which were something like vampires in it. It was against her religion to read something like that. I had a publisher refuse me because it was too much of a story, too much magic and too much imagination and not enough sex. She flat out told me that the only works she published were quick reads that focused on the relationship between two characters. That’s great if it works for her but was a problem since my book didn’t fit that cliche.
Dark Roast Press doesn’t seem to care if your writing about gay love, erotica, romance, fantasy, horror or whatever else. They have an open mind concerning submissions. As long as the writing is of its own style and flare and the story stands out. They want stories that shine on its own. They do not want another version of Lord of the Rings simply because that’s the latest craze. They want something NEW—told in a way that blows the other out of the water. They want a NEW story even if it is something daring. They really give their writers a chance to be different.
Anyway, I am very happy with them and am thankful that they took a chance on me and my work. They are fairly new but the owner and staff have plenty of experience. They are still working out the kinks but given time, I am sure they will be a name everyone will recognize.
Don’t take my word for it though…go hunt down their writers and ask them. (they would know better than anyone) That’s how I got started.

Excerpt from Bound By Blood: The Awakening & Blurb
Blurb:
The truth of the Ancients has been kept from you. For life did not begin here on Earth but in a universe known as TEŔAH.
Can you lay claim to one of their bloodlines?
Samanthŕa Lampiŕ can and this is her story…
And possibly, it is the beginning of yours.
Samanthŕa Lampiŕ is the High Priestess of twelve very powerful and ancient bloodlines. She is on the verge of her Awakening which is something every Vii before her has welcomed with absolute ease. Not Samanthŕa though, for her Awakening is prophesied to bring about the doom of her and those she loves the most, her six sisters. In secret, she undergoes dangerous rituals that’s could literally destroy her but she is more than willing to take that chance for she is no stranger to sacrifice. Despite the fatal threats of TEŔAH and the rising strengths of its enemies, she is succeeding until the night a great storm of unknowable power releases a prophecy, a revelation that will change her world, her peoples’ world, forever.
Daŕēus Dracuŕa, Father of the Blood and keeper of the 13th forgotten bloodline, is released from an age long prison that he was wrongly condemned to by traitors of his own blood and that of Evil. In a venomous rage, he learns that TEŔAH is in greater peril than anyone in it has come to realize and he is the only one that can stop it. But in order to do so, he needs the High Priestess and he needs her at her full strength and power. He needs her Awakened whether she is willing or not and despite what harm it may bring to others.
Enter a world unlike any other. Discover a past which has been kept secret until now. Find your place among a forgotten bloodline and in the end, know your true purpose.
But be forewarned now, the truth is not always what it seems and lifting the veil is not always easy. Once you begin this journey, know that it can not end until it is finished.
Ask yourself now, before you invoke the spell of this tale, what those in TEŔAH had to decide….
Are you ready to be awakened?
Because once you do, there is no turning back.
Excerpt:
The young girl started to go in but the Crone stopped her by putting her staff against her chest. She was gentle, only wishing to delay her entrance into the mysterious lair.
“I must warn you now before you enter,” she said with serious eyes. “The essence from within that room is great. Once I speak the words of power, the stories will play out before you, making them seem so real. You will not only watch them play out but you will feel all that those who lived them felt. You will be but a ghost there, unable to interfere or make change, for the things done have already come to be. You will be unseen, yet will feel and know every sensation, every emotion, and every bit of agony. You will know pain as well as happiness. Once their stories begin, there will be no stopping them until they find their end. Do you understand? Are you prepared to take such a journey?”
The young one nodded from underneath the hood of her cloak. “What about the ones that I have ties to and my birthright? Will I find them in this room? What happened to them?”
“You will know your birthright and so much more, child. It takes a strong heart to survive this journey you face now. Are you ready?” the Crone asked again, and the girl nodded.
“So be it.” The Crone led her into the room.
Its walls were high, slick, and brown like the rest of the cavern. Moisture dripped from above them. Embedded in the walls were large crystals. They were clear, flawless, and powerful. The soft light was coming from inside their sparkling depth.
The Crone raised her staff and called out in an ancient language. While she spoke, the light from the crystals became even brighter.
“Bound by blood,
By blood we are bound.
By my blood I say awaken now.
By the one of blood I bring,
Show unto her the truth of things.
Let the past now sing.
Now comes the time of her awakening.
Open her eyes
Set this knowledge free.
So Mote It Be.”
A blinding light shot forth throughout the room, causing their eyes to sting. The ground beneath them seemed to rumble slightly as the door behind them shut and sealed.
A mist of many colors swirled around them and rocketed into the darkness above. Sparks of energy fell upon their faces. Before them a veil lifted and a strange vision unfurled. A sheet of transparent silver hovered over the crystals. The silver turned to a watery glass. The vision was reflected from there.
Silence fell as both grew still, with nothing in motion but the sparks of light falling gently upon them. Time seemed to freeze. It did not exist here. The coldness of the room became warm while a moment locked into an eternity. They found themselves staring at a woman sleeping. The watery glass rippled a bit but became clearer. The girl standing beside the Crone nearly swooned with awe.
She was beautiful, the young one thought as she traced every detail of her with her starving eyes. Long raven hair flowed like a silk garland, softly lingering upon a comforter the color of wine. The woman in the vision was dreaming and her dreams seemed peaceful for now. The chamber around her was medieval and made of stone. A castle, the young one could see. And she heard something whisper, many voices all at once, whispers which said,
“You of the blood who call to us,
Beckoning the echoes of past truths be shown.
Here we give unto you what your heart dotht ask…
Now watch as we bring to life, what is written in the stone…”
