LITERARY NYMPHS HOT LIST 2010: Bound by Blood: The Awakening

This made my day as I discovered it through Google Alerts.

Check it out as Bound by Blood: The Awakening made Literary Nymphs 2010 Hot List. All I can say is *screeeeeeeeeams*!!!! I was tickled with the review when it first came out not expecting the 5 Nymphs I got, but so thankful. Then when I learned one of their toughest reviewers got me, well it just made my millennium. So this just adds to the thrill, ya know. Like the review, I will have to frame this one.

Literary Nymphs Hot List

The original review for Bound by Blood: The Awakening

Rating: 5 Nymphs
Literary Nymph Reviewer: Fire Nymph

C.H. Scarlett has won herself a spot on my favorite author list, and I will be waiting rather impatiently for the continuation of the Bound by Blood saga, and can hope that there is going to be a continuation.

New 5 Star Review for Bound by Blood: The Awakening

C.H Scarlett has portrayed an impeccably flawless and exceptionally intricate work of fiction. The plot, characterizations and world building is brilliantly prepared and thought-out. While reading this story, BOUND by BLOOD, I experienced the intense, overpowering, passion hidden within its pages and even sensing the author’s zealous desire for her talent of writing. The penetrating attractions between the characters were overwhelmingly heartfelt. I will be looking forward to reading further books by C.H. Scarlett and will positively be recommending this story to any reader  who is interested in Paranormal, Fantasy and Erotic Fiction genres.

The FTC Can Suck it

lol Sorry FTC. Do you know how much trouble you are causing? And well, after watching The Land of the Lost—a DVD I bought with my own money—where Dr. Rick Marshal (Will Ferrell) yells “Matt Lauer can suck it!” I couldn’t resist.

Anyway, for those who have no idea what I’m talking about concerning the FTC—read HERE.

Basically what the FTC is trying to do is bring transparency to the table. Now, hearing both sides of the argument, I think it has something to do with celebrities being paid to push products or others being paid to praise stuff that they were given—possibly giving them means to say good things.

You know I am sure we have all wondered if Oprah has really tried all those crazy diets. And I mean for more than a day mind you. Yeah, Oprah, just because you swallowed a spoonful of berries once or twice doesn’t mean you actually did the diet and had success.

And what about all those people raving about penis enlargers on their blogs? Did their penis really grow ten feet just by swallowing one pill?

But here’s the problem—book reviews. All over Blog-averse  people (book reviewers) are throwing up disclaimers just so they are not wrongfully sued or made an example of by the FTC. Now that’s what I want to talk about and explain because writers have it hard as it is. AND I do not want readers thinking that just because they read a Review (a good Review) of a book on the internet, that, that suddenly means the Reviewer was paid to say those things. Not so…

You have, out there, thousands and thousands of writers who are literally struggling. They can barely make the rent much less pay ten or more reviewers to read their books. I mean if you saw some of them dig in the sofa for coins just to send off a submission, you would grab the Kleenex.

If and when a writer has a book published, they are still a very small bleeding fish trying to survive in a gigantic pool of piranha. Not everyone receives advances and those who do aren’t running off to Macys to spend millions in diamond studded gowns. With that being said, every writer tries to advertise their work as many ways they can and as FREE as possible. The problem with that is, most writers are forced to do the same thing as all the other writers– only in an attempt to do something as different as they can. They use Blog, Twitter, Facebook, MySpace, Contests, Youtube when creating Book Trailers, Interviews, podcasts, and most importantly…have their book reviewed.

There are tons of sites out there that will review a book. In the circles of writers, some are very well known. Every site has its own guidelines concerning submissions but I can promise you this, every site has one thing in common—they Read and Review our work for FREE. And what do Writers silently agree on? We agree to take a chance.

There is a chance that someone will yell, “Hey Writer!!!Your Book Can Suck it!!!”

There is a chance that we will receive what we consider a great review only with some minor things the reviewer didn’t like, and that will in turn cause readers to X out the page and not buy our books.

There is a chance that 3 reviewers will rave our books and a chance that 1 big reviewer will crush us to dust.

There is a chance that offering our books up for reviews will kill us and a chance that we might sell one book out of 100 readers looking at the Review. (See small rewards for big chances taken)

Whatever our chance, I can promise you this…

Tomorrow, we will still be a bleeding fish in a pool of blood thirsty piranhas.

And I can promise you something else…

We, the writers, the true hard core, trying our damnedest to succeed in this business, don’t mind the slightly awful reviews. We want to better ourselves and in order to do that, we need the opinion of obsessed readers—and those are the reviewers.

However the point is this…just because a review site receives a book for free, does not mean that they are promising a dishonest and awesome review. If they like it, they say so. If they hate it…unfortunately they say so.

But how does a reader know whether or not to take a review seriously, especially when you are searching for new or not so well known writers? I mean the reader wants something fresh, right? They don’t want the New York Times telling them what a Best Seller is…*winks*

That’s easy.

A book will receive more than one review. Google it or check the author or publishers web site. They will list them. If you are worried that they are only listing great reviews…again…Google. Every book will have a mix of both or you will find critical sites that make a point to give you both. Search the archives of those sites. Are they madly in love with EVERY FREAKIN BOOK THEY READ?????? No? Yes?

The thing is, while the FTC may have a specific problem they are going after, some very small bleeding fish are going to get a new one ripped open from this…

That is, unless readers and people in general understand the in’s and out’s and why’s of all this.

And there you have it…hopefully you understand now…if not…

C.H. Scarlett can SUCK IT!!!! lol

DVD Movie Review: Land of the Lost

My Review:

For those who maybe too young to know it, this movie was based off of a 1974 TV series called The Land of the Lost. You can click that link to watch videos of past episodes and so forth.

I was a watcher of this series when I was a kid. I had to laugh when I caught some old episodes awhile back—at how low budget it was lol. Still, for some weird reason, I liked it and spent a whole day watching those episodes replay on the TV.

Check it out! The Dawn of a Copper Age

Quote:

The Dawn of the Copper Age

Copper Age bannerI’m not referring to ancient history here! Today the Copper Age webcomic launches at www.itisacircle.com – kicking off with a story called ‘The Blind Fisherman’ – a mix of art and pictures, but not exactly traditional comics stuff (and no men in spandex thumping each other!)

This is a project I’ve been working on with Tom Brown for some years. I interviewed Tom on this blog a bit back, so you might want to hunt that out. I’ll be here today, with assorted posts about what we do, and why, and how.

Below is something to set the mood, giving you a flavour for the landscape in which our characters are trying to survive. (For more insight, have a look at www.hopelessvendetta.wordpress.com )

_______________________________

I don’t know the artist personally but I do know the writer. I can say, my mind lingers in the world and art that they have created. Rarely will I recommend something so pay attention. This is the new Gothic-ly fab-u-liscious crack. If you have a taste for the bitter-sweet then you have to bite a chunk out of this. The art and world is absolutely amazing…and I honestly can’t say enough about it. I can say that for those who can appreciate such decadent tastes, you will be dreaming of a whole new world when you lay your head to rest. Now, I am off to find out how I can score a ticket to Hopeless. I am ready to sell the house, box up the kids, and fuel up the broomstick to get me there.

Cerebral Reviews–Pointing out the Good & Bad concerning Bound by Blood: The Awakening

This is a great Review. It points out the positive as well as the negative.

Ms. Scarlett has an obvious love of language, world- and character-building, and the ability to form solid sentences structured in a variety of ways, which kept this reader interested. I’m surprised an agent hasn’t snapped this series up and sold it to the highest bidder.—4 Brainys

Night Time Romance Reviews—5 Stars & a Little Something Extra!

Every time I submit Bound by Blood: The Awakening to a reviewer, I start to gnaw my nails, turn a little gray and pace the floors. Why? Because you never know when a Reviewer is going to have a bad day, or when they might be rushed for deadlines, or maybe they just didn’t want to read the book to start out with.

One reviewer may praise you while another may bring the hammer down over your head. In one second the slaughter-fest may begin. So far I haven’t had a slaughter-fest concerning BBB, but I know one is coming. lol

This review however, that I am about to link you is by far the best review I have ever gotten. Why? Because the reviewer put so much passion and detail into the review itself. Of course she does the basic–what all reviewers should do–she gives my description of the book and then her description. But then she gives the review and I tell ya, if anyone ever got the story, it’s her. I guess I like the review because it’s professional yet it is also through the eyes of a dedicated and very opinionated reader. Anyway, see for yourself.

Here is a clipping:

Welcome to a brand new series by this talented writer. Ms. Scarlett has created a thrilling and exciting new series that is going to wow many fans. It has that old fantasy romance that is rarely seen in today’s novels. There are many intriguing characters that help our hero and heroine along the way. Things are rarely what they seem which makes it ever harder for the heroine to keep on fighting. You will enjoy all the obstacles and challenges placed on these characters.
You better believe that Bound By Blood is a work of art that has the makings of being onscreen entertainment. You will not find anything remotely close to this novel.

To read the full review click HERE-- Because believe me, she has a lot more to say and I of course, savored every word.

When an author writes a book, we realize and accept the many trial and struggles we are going to face. Not only is the publishing process (trying to find it a home and so forth) but then there is the whole promoting the book, the reviews, getting readers and so on. It’s an ongoing roller coaster ride through a tunnel of pins and nails. We each tell ourselves if one person gets it, if one person gets lost in it, if one person loves it, then its worth it. I have been blessed with some passionate readers who have gotten it and have fallen in love with it. I enjoy every email I get. But I have to say that this one review truly rocked my world because it not only comes from a reader but also a reviewer who has the fate of my baby in their hands. So yeah, I am cherishing this moment completely and will hold tight to it in case that slaughter-fest comes my way. ~winks~

My First Review on Bound By Blood: The Awakening!!!!!!

I got my first review concerning the first book of Bound By Blood: The Awakening.

For all those who have bought the book—there was formatting problems with the PDF version. My Publisher has discovered these and is on top of the problem.

I am so excited…my first review!!!!

Quotes:

Bound By Blood: The Awakening is an impressive read. The story entrapped me and would not release its hold until the final page. Samanthra showed me what a strong, selfless woman could do when put to challenges and Darieus showed me that a man can be both warrior and lover without ever combining the two…well unless asked, that is.

C.H. Scarlett has won herself a spot on my favorite author list, and I will be waiting rather impatiently for the continuation of the Bound by Blood saga, and can hope that there is going to be a continuation.

Twilight Spoof Review—Terribly Funny!

UPDATE: She has more chapters posted!!!!!

I received this link from Lex Valentine, a talented writer whose teen daughter shows that talent runs in the family. I thought this young lady’s post needed some extra attention for the sheer fact that I love a good spoof and she pulled it off quite nicely. First, pay close attention that she mimics the writing style of Stephanie Meyers and gives the story a darkly, saturated dose of humor that had me in stitches.

It’s a great read:

Quotes:

I was dressed really pretty. The kind of pretty where people would stop in the middle of whatever stupid activity they were doing and give me their full attention just like God intended. That kind of pretty. Suffice it to say, I was really uber pretty. My mom was driving me to the airport and my carry on was a parka because I can make a parka look really fucking pretty. You probably can’t though.

****

“So, this is a lot different than Phoenix, huh?” he asked inquisitively.

“Duh,” I answered in annoyance.

“It doesn’t rain much there, does it?”

“Duh.”

“Wow, what must that be like?” he wondered wonderingly.

“Sunny,” I told him tellingly.

“You’re kind of pale.”

“My mother is part albino.”

Apparently my sarcasm was lost on him, but I had to forgive him for his stupidity because he’s inbred.

Again, it is a great read and an excellent first attempt at this type of humor. She would make Wyntress Nyght (a dark satire I am working on) proud. Let’s hope this girl keeps it up and does something with this talent!
